It's not a sports car if it doesn't have flip up lights!! (at least that is what I thought when I was a kid) IP: Logged |

With all due respect..Only the most obsessed 'weight freak' or racers would care about the weight. The increase in surface area to clean is minimal. Although most of us agree the headlights affect aerodynamics when up, do you seriously think there will be a noticeable difference in fuel consumption for the average driver?..Geez..'Lighten up'..You are absolutely right about cleaning under them and the freezing issue. The pop-ups are definitely a 'character' feature. Immediately discernable from those aero, euro,Lexus knock-offs everybody seems to be using these days. A Miata without barn doors is like Pamela Anderson without cleavage...Like Don King without the hair..Like Michael Buffer saying "ya'll can fight now".. Form does not sacrifice function..They make light...Mission accomplished..

What the hay, I'm in. One bonus is that I was able to get E-codes for better lighting. Not sure how that compares to the new ones, but it sure beats the heck out of the stock sealed beams. It's also distinctive, and looks better, at least when they're down, which is most of the time for me. They add character to the car. -juice IP: Logged |

Barndoors are great! How do those guys make them look like air scoops - - "eyes" open about 1" - 2" inches when closed? IP: Logged |

Love them too. Off to Italy for a ski trip. I think I'll have to pick up some E-codes while I'm there IP: Logged |

Logically, they make no sense. But I still like them ... a lot. They add much to a Miata's "character." IP: Logged |

Hi folks, it's me Effervescent, the Miata.Netter that started this thread. I've decided that since this thread is bordering on a movement, I would create an actual Barndoor Fan Club. Soon, I will be emailing everyone in this thread some details as to the ideas I have for the Club. I'm asking that if your email is not viewable by others to email me directly at barndoorfanclub@hotmail.com so that I can contact you with my ideas. One final thought, it took me by surprise how popular this thread became. Over 150 Miata.Netter have "signed up". I suspect that many of us miss some of the design ideas that have changed since the original M1. It is my believe that besides being a fun thread, it somehow addresses that emotional aspect. My hopes are to have most of you sign up, so we can continue the fun, the spirit, and the brotherhood/sisterhood here. I'm open to suggestions and ideas. Thanks! -Eff

Try putting 7" Cibies on an M2 ... Though, a set of HID's wouldn't be so bad. - M IP: Logged |

I wish mine had popups. They are a feature of most true sports cars and not to mention the fact that they leave the graceful bodylines intact. Mazda should bring back the popups, but probably won't. *sigh* I think if the M2 were to have barn doors it would really resemble the genIII RX-7 though... IP: Logged |

Okay...this one has been fun and been a good ride but it's time to close it down. There are so many posts that no one is going back and reading all the inputs, as a name list, it's not adding a terrific amount of value to the 90-97 forum (we all know M1's are better ), ...so all take a deep breath and let it go, fur now, okay?
