Another trip to Santa Fe to visit friend Sally. We usually take 4 travel days to get from Klamath Falls to Santa Fe, but this time on the way down we spent an extra night in Moab, UT so we could visit Canyonlands National Park. The travel photos are square cropped because that is usually the way I do it so that I can post to Instagram. The ones from Canyonlands are horizontal because they deserve it.
Rental Ride - Because Enterprise here in town isn't open on the weekends we picked up this 2021 CX-5 on Friday ahead of our Sunday departure. (03/25/22)
Bumper Sticker - In the past I have put Geocaching Travel Bug sticker on a car for a trip, but this time I attached a bumper sticker. (03/25/22)
Carson City Breakfast - Our go to breakfast spot in Carson City,
The Cracker Box . (03/28/22)
Fresh Squeezed - This is the reason
The Cracker Box rocks, the OJ is fresh squeezed right then when you aske for it. (03/28/22)
US-50 in Nevada - This sign early on US-50 in Nevada might have had more impact if it had been placed where the next picture was taken. (04/07/22)
The Loneliest Road - This really is a very lonely road, I bet we have seen less cars than fingers on a hand between Austin and Eureka. (04/07/22)
Official Stamp Location - If you got the Loneliest Road Survival Guide booklet from the state's tourism board, you could get it stamped at several locations along the way. If you got at least five you got a certificate. We didn't have a booklet and if we did the stop here, the Eureka Courthouse was closed. (03/28/22)
Petroglyphs - Blew right past this sign before thinking it might be a spot for a leg stretch along the loneliest road. The petroglyphs were not that interesting but we did a walk around a small trail. (03/28/22)
US-50 in Utah - Dear Nevada, the first 100 miles of US-50 in Utah are pretty damn lonely too. (03/29/22)
I-70 Utah Scenic Rest Stop - We stopped here to change drivers and take in some southwest dessert scenery. (03/29/22)
Watermelon Festival Float - A float for the Watermelon Festival in Green River, Utah. I took a picture of this back in 2018 when we stayed here in, but I'll be damned if I can find it. It looks like they spruced it up since though. (03/29/22)
Canyonlands National Park - On advice of a woman at the Moab Information Center, we arrive early to beat the crowds. (03/30/22)
Mesa Arch - This is the first spot of interest on the park's main road. It is also the most crowded as a lot of folks want to watch the sunrise through the arch. We missed the sunrise by about 15 minutes. (03/30/22)
View Through Mesa Arch - You can see how nice it would be to watch a sunrise from here. The way the sun would come over that far ridge and slowly illuminate the valley below would be spectacular. (03/30/22)
View of Mesa Arch - On our way back to the parking lot I turned around and got one last look at the arch. Nice. (03/30/22)
Green River Canyon - In my humble opinion this is the best view in the park. (03/30/22)
Selfie at the Green River Overlook - I said let's take a selfie and she said, "Sure, let me know when to smile." Because of where the sun is I can't really see the phone screen, so I'm estimating where I should hold it. When I think I'm ready, I say, "Smile." Where then my camera shy wife takes her cue and turns away... (03/30/22)
Orange Cliffs Overlook - One of several overlooks along the roads through the park. (03/30/22)
Grand View Point Overlook - A very panoramic scenic overlook, but when I see this picture all I can think about is that really gigantic chicken stepped in the mud a long time ago. (03/30/22)
White Rim Road - If you are the adventurous sort and have a 4-wheel drive vehicle you can drive the 100-mile White Rim Road. Seeing as we meet neither of these requirements we'll just enjoy the view from above. (03/30/22)
Somewhere in New Mexico - A random crumbling mesa somewhere in New Mexico taken while I was a passenger. (03/31/22)
La Casa de Sally - Our home away from home for the next week. (03/31/22)
Cholla Plant - On April Fool's Day we were fooled by a friend of Sally's. He was out of town and asked her to go supervise a short visit from his home security company. It turned out to be anything but short. His yard was chock full of these interesting cacti though. (04/01/22)
Dragonstone Studios - Game of Thrones author George RR Martin has a home here in Santa Fe and has a big local presence, including creating this space for local artists. (04/02/22)
Scenic Sky Railway Trip - One of the things Sally wanted to do while we were there was to ride the
Sky Railway train. We took the Saturday scenic trip that lasted about 2-1/2 hours. Nice, but probably won't do it again. (04/03/22)
Old Number 93 -This one of engines of the
Sky Railway . It is painted like a dragon because George RR Martin is one of the 3 owners of the company. (04/03/22)
Tune-Up Cafe Souvenir - This restaurant was right around the corner from La Casa de Sally. We had breakfast there today and bought some souvenir mugs. It was featured on a
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives back in 2009, but not for breakfast though, it was for the owner's San Salvadorian food. (04/05/22)
Overlooking Downtown Santa Fe - We brought a couple of geocaching Travel Bugs with us from Oregon to pass along. There was a cache here in Fort Mary Park that also had a nice overlook out over downtown Santa Fe. (04/05/22)
Overlooking Downtown Santa Fe at Night - We went back downtown later to catch the sunset from the park, but missed it by about 15 minutes. (04/05/22)
Back Road Pizza - For lunch today we went to our second
Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives restaurant in Santa Fe,
Back Road Pizza . The corn meal mixed into the crust, not just on the bottom was the magic trick here. (04/06/22)
Grants, NM - We took a photo of the Mini in this arch back in 2019. (04/07/22)
Wigwam Motel - The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona is inspiration for Radiator Springs' Cozy Cone Motel in the movie Cars. (04/07/22)
Standin' on the Corner - I've always wanted to stop here on past trips through Winslow, Arizona, but never did. This was a very busy spot, I guess a lot of people are Eagles fans. (04/0722)
UFO Landing - About 30 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV it looks like an UFO is about to land at Area 51. (04/08/22)
Geocaching Stop - We had one more Travel Bug to gid rid of, so on the next to the last day of traveling we found a cache about 100 yards off of US-95 between Beatty and Tonopah, NV. (04/09/22)
Lucky Strike - You didn't need another breakfast picture from The Cracker Box in Carson City, so I snapped this of a scooter parked at the casino next door. (04/10/22)
