When we received an invitation to a niece’s wedding in Lake Tahoe we knew we were going to attend. At first we thought we’d fly out, but because we like road trips and we were both retired, we decided to drive. And because we could take our time we planned to take a whole month on it. I started planning two separate routes that encompassed places we would like to visit along the way, one for the trip out and another for the return.

Cemetery Geocaching -Because we are in the Mini and not the Miata, there are no Moss Motoring Challenge photos to take, so to occupy our time while travelling just 200-300 miles a day we are falling back on an old sideline – Geocaching. (05/01/2018)

Indian Blankets - While driving along Texas FM2114 between Laguna Park and the town of West the road was lined along both sides with these wild flowers. Finally, I couldn't stand it any longer, so I found a spot that led to a ranch entrance and pulled off to take a picture. (05/03/2018)

Hico, TX - We stopped here for a leg stretch walk and stumbled on a Billy the Kid statue. Turns out there is a Museum here where they have "evidence" that Billy the Kid wasn’t shot by Pat Garrett in New Mexico in 1881, but actually escaped him and was living as Brushy Bill in town here where he died. UFO Cattle Crossing - On the way up to Madrid on NM14 Donna asked, “Did you see that cattle crossing sign? It had a UFO on it above the cow silhouette.” “Nope,” I replied, then I asked, “Go back?” “Yes,” she said. Delicate Arch - The Delicate Arch is probably the first image that comes to mind when thinking of this park. The trail to it is 1.5 miles long and all up hill to the viewpoint. Looking for the Cartwrights - Because today was only a 60 mile drive we killed time by geocaching in and around the area. First we went to Virginia City and if NV341, the city’s main street, was unpaved and you squinted your eyes a bit, you could almost believe it was 1860 because of the architecture and the sidewalks still being wood. Then we explored the state's capital city before climbing the mountain to get to Lake Tahoe our home base for the next week. (05/13/2018)

Breakfast in Gainesville, TX - Because we were at a place with Fried Pies in their name, we both opted to try one for breakfast and both our reviews of this dish were, “Interesting, not bad, but I bet the fruit pies are better.”(05/25/2018)

Eiffel Tower Texas Style - The first time we visited Paris, TX it was to take a picture of this bit of Roadside America for the 2014 Moss Motoring Challenge. So on this visit I had to take one with the Mini too, although this wasn't the real reason we are here this time. (05/25/2018)

Small Space, Big Taste in Burgerland - The real reason we are in Paris, TX is to eat here. We were so impressed in 2014 that we had to come back. There are probably 15 seats and at lunch there is always a wait, but it is worth it. The fries are as good as, if not better than Five Guys and the burgers are 2 to 3 times better. (05/25/2018)

Breakfast Place in Minden, LA - Last night’s hotel clerk recommendation for a good breakfast where the locals eat was to drive just up the street a bit and go here. We were worried a bit as there was only one other vehicle in the lot when we pulled in. Soon the rest of the locals started arriving one by one and they greeted each other by name. When we finished up and stepped outside I knew I needed to snap a picture. Take a guess, which one of these things is not like the other.(05/26/2018)

Bonnie & Clyde Ambush Museum, Gibsland, LA - After visiting 2 of the 3 purported sites of Billy the Kid's demise we decided to continue with our morbid outlaw death tour and drop in on the little town where Bonnie Parker & Clyde Barrow were killed in an ambush because it was right along our route. North Shore of Lake Ponchatrain in Mandeville - Donna wanted some beignets from Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter for breakfast today, but I refused to drive into New Orleans. We compromised by visiting one of their other locations in Mandeville which is a lot closer to Hammond.(05/28/2018)

Mandeville (LA) Morning - Because Hurricane Alberto was between us and home we opted to stay in Hammond an extra day. We took another early morning drive over to Mandeville. Not for beignets this time, but for a nice walk along the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain (you can see the causeway to New Orleans across the horizon. (05/28/2018)

Sunset Rainbow - All Hammond, LA received from Hurricane Alberto were a couple of sprinkles and a very interesting sky. (05/28/2018)

Montgomery, AL - One last hotel room and the trip is almost over. When we got up in Hammond in the morning I checked the radar and I could see the rain bands still circling around the center of Alberto with the bottom of them around Montgomery. The sky was threatening all day, but it hardly sprinkled on the drive here. (05/29/2018)
