Pearsons Falls - A lovely 90' cascade that is just across the North Carolina border from SC on US176 in Tryon. It is owned and operated by the Tryon Garden Club and cost $3 a person to visit. It is worth every penny. (06/27/2007)

Mouth of Wilson, VA - Traveling the back roads of Virginia we passed through the one blinking light town of Mouth of Wilson. I was hoping for a ''Welcome to'' sign to take and send back to my boss whose last name is Wilson. Missed it on the way in town, but found the Post Office just on the way out of town. (06/28/2007)

Crabtree Falls - The trail to Crabtree Falls is a loop, with one segment to the falls listed at .9 miles and the other being 1.6 miles. What they don?t mention is that it is a half-mile to the beginning of the loop. We took the shorter path to the falls and boy was it interesting, steep, rocky, and full of roots and all downhill. The 70' falls were definitely worth the walk though. We took the long way back and the trail was a whole lot less rocky and because it was longer, it was less steep. (06/28/2007)

Natural Bridge - We have been to Virginia?s Natural Bridge several times and I have a bunch of pictures showing it?s grandeur from underneath on my hard drive. This time we didn?t stop in, but we passed right over the top of it on US11. Donna was driving so I got the camera out and took my first picture of the top of the Natural Bridge. Breathtaking, isn?t it? (06/28/2007)

Wigwam Falls - Today?s waterfall, Wigwam, was a mere pup at 30' compared to the past two days and the walk to it was a piece of cake too, about a hundred yards off the parkway. (06/28/2007)

Shakey DC Metro - On Saturday, Donna, Sally and I took the Metro to the National Zoo. $1.40 for the train is all it cost us. The Zoo, like the Smithsonian's on the mall, are admission free. (06/30/07)

Lemur Island Falls - We were photographing a waterfall a day on the trip up and had hopes of trying to find one for every day of the trip, but after having to resort to taking a photo of a man made falls in a zoo, the steam ran out on that idea. (06/30/07)

Monkey on a High Wire - They have set up some high lines between several points in the zoo and the orangutans have the freedom to roam them. Just don?t stand directly under the wires... (06/30/07)

Awaiting Restoration - For something to do we piled into two cars and visited the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol. One of their primary missions is to restore old carousel horses, both public and private. (07/03/07)

New Head - A new head is being carved to replace a damaged one. The head gets most of the abuse because people hold on to it to mount and ride the ride. (07/03/07)

Coney Island Style - This horse still wears it's original paint and has the original horse hair tail. When one of our group asked when they were going to restore it, our guide replied, ''Never. It would ruin it's value.'' (07/03/07)

Romance Side - Something I never noticed before, did you know that one side of a carousel horse gets a lot better treatment than the other? This is a picture of both sides of the same horse. On the left is the side that faces out, the so called romance side, because it romances you onto the ride. (07/03/07)

Iwo Jima Memorial - Right on the town line between New Britain & Newington is the National Iwo Jima Memorial. It can be seen from Route 9 which we frequently use to get to & from my brother's house. I have a photo of the monument in Arlington and every time we pass this one, I think to myself, ''I should stop and get a photo.'' This morning I did. (07/04/07)

Comstock Bridge 1 - Built in 1873 and renovated a couple times since, this bridge is now supported by huge steel beams and is now closed to vehicular traffic. (07/04/07)

Chapman Falls - Chapman Falls turned out to be easy to find and easy to photograph. The roads surrounding the park are awesome. Lonely, narrow, tree lined and twisty they are perfect Miata roads. Hard to believe there is that much area of Connecticut that is still pristine and sparsely populated. (07/04/07)

Chester-Hadlyme Ferry - This is a small ferry, holding maybe 10 cars, and costs a whopping $3. As we approached the other side of the river Donna and I got back in the car and opened the CT map to decide how to get back to Farmington on the best 2 lane roads available. We both had our heads buried in the map when all of a sudden we heard, ''All ashore that Is going ashore!'' from the ship's bridge. We had docked and the other three cars had long since departed. With a sheepish smile and a wave I started the car and drove off. (07/04/07)

We used to have someone to visit when we came to town, but now that the Lewis clan has pretty much scattered, we were left to our own devices. So we decided to do the Sally Lewis Loop Walk, about 2 miles around the outside, then through the middle of the campuses of VMI and W&L. (07/06/07)
