Brian’s Miata Photos Photos from my nearly 34 years of owning Miatas. « back to album2006 Calendar January - I took this photo for one of several photo memes I participate in on a weekly basis. The theme for this photo was ghostly and I created this in my digital darkroom using a double exposure. I placed the camera on a tripod and took one picture with the car in the scene and then took a second picture after I drove the car out. Combined the 2 images on different layers and then adjusted the opacity on the layer with the car to around 50% - instant ghost car.February - Taken the same day as the cover photo, this time I parked the car in front of the power distribution section of the dam.March - I saw this cool addition of a Japanese license plate to a Miata at Rspeed's Open House. It looked good in the pictures as well. I wanted really badly for this mod to work out. I called in a favor to get a custom mount made and everything. But the plate only stayed on the car for 9 days. I like the look, but didn't like the way it looked (if that makes sense.)April - After the Japanese license plate came off I was looking for something different to add a touch of Japan to the car. I came up with getting the brilliant idea of Kanji characters for 'The Emperor', the car's nickname, and placing them on the side sills. This modification lasted only slightly longer than the license plate did.May - A badly exposed image that I felt was saved by running it through a filter called 'Bad Dream' from xero.June - Like a dog on a leash, the Miata sits by the side of the road seemingly ready to jump and chase the curves ahead.July - Looking down from the fourth floor of a downtown Augusta parking garage.August - It is amazing to me the different shades of color the car seems to be depending on the lighting. On cloudy days or with the sun behind the car it appears maroon, while under bright sun it is a sparkly red.September - The local newspaper offices have a half dozen or so of these maple trees on their front lawn. A week or so before they had published some photos of the trees as they turned the bright colors of fall, but I forgot all about them the first day I went out locally looking for autumn backgrounds for the Miata. Which turned out to be fortuitous as on a Sunday afternoon when I did remember these trees there was no one at work to object to me driving on their front lawn? 🙂October - On my previous Miata I had a some alligator teeth on the mouth full time, but for this one I decided I didn't want to do that. But still liking the idea of teeth, I bought these Vampire Teeth for use during October for Halloween and for anytime the Master's Miata Club does a parade.November - Fall means county fairs and this was taken in front of the soon to be used entrance of the Augusta Exchange Club Fairgrounds.December - The low angle of the setting sun really makes the car stand out against these abandoned buildings near my usual commute to work.Cover - This image was chosen just so I could use a bad pun as the title of this year's Miata wall calendar, Dam Fine Car.
