Today was the first day of spring and it felt more like winter than most of winter did. Average high is 72 and we were at least 20 degrees cooler with overcast skies. The highs for the rest of the week is going to be in the lower 60’s, at least it is supposed to be sunny.
There was a Preacher whose wife was expecting a baby, so he went before the congregations and asked for a raise. After much discussion, they passed a rule that whenever the Preacher’s family expanded, so would his paycheck. After 6 children, this started to get expensive and the Congregation decided to hold another meeting to discuss the Preacher’s salary. There was much yelling and bickering about how much the clergyman’s additional children were costing the church. Finally, the Preacher got up and spoke to the crowd, “Children are a gift from God” he said. Silence fell on the congregation.
In the back pew, a little old lady stood up and in her frail voice said, “Rain is also a gift from God, but when we get too much of it, we wear rubbers.”
And the congregation said, “Amen”.
We have a string of three horsey events here in my fair city which they like to call the Triple Crown. The past couple of years they have had a little “street fair” downtown on the Friday before the first event. This year it coincided with St. Patrick’s Day so they tossed some green dye in the fountain in the middle of the street. I sure hope that the cement of the fountain will clean up.
I got my new glasses in this week. I’ve got 20-20 distance vision, but with experience comes presbyopia. They are from the Silhouette Titan Translucent Rimless Collection. Titanium eyeglasses with spring hinge skull and adjustable nose pads in Golden Taupe. Ooh-la-la.
I went to the Silhouette web site to get a photo to post and for the heck of it I tried out their Style Room Type Test. I answered a bunch of multiple choice questions and at the very end I was given 4 styles of frames that matched my “personality.” Lo and behold, the frames I bought were one of the four.
This is so much worse than hearing the theme to Shaft smoothed into background sounds for my Local Forcast on the Weather Channel.
“We Got The Meat” to the tune of the Go-Go’s “We Got The Beat” selling delivery pizza. Or worse still, the Gilligan’s Island theme bastardized to sell shrimp at trendy chain restaurant.
Email notifications of comments is working again. I think turning them off and then back on did the trick.
I was going to break down and wash the car tonight because we are in for a no-rain stretch, but decided against it. It would have been a waste. The pine pollen has really started to kick in the last couple of days. When it is this bad, you can wash the car, dry it off, and by the time you have coiled the hose up out of the way to drive the car into the garage, there is already a small dusting of yellow powder back on the car.
I just cleaned off the pollen using my “Ernest Brush.” That is a California Duster, but was nicknamed that by my wife after a former MMC member who used to bring one out whenever we took a break during Club driving events.
