Sox TV

Red Sox host the Braves in inter-league play this weekend so I will get to watch the games on TBS instead of listening to them on MLB.com. It might be a good thing, depends on how they play. Because when listening on the radio you have to use your imagination to visualize the action, so if things are going badly it is easy to shut off the illusion and reduce the pain level. Plus on radio there isn’t that little reminder score box mocking you in the corner of the screen.

Risky Business

I have ripped about a Megs worth of MP3s from RadioioAmbient as it makes a nice background music to work to. And if I keep the volume down my cubicle neighbors can’t hear it. I even recognize a few of the tunes played as I went through a New Age music phase back in the late 80’s – early 90’s.

There is one track I captured that I bet quite a few people would recognize and it might even send a few, like me, into an erotic daydream. Its Tangerine Dream’s Love On A Real Train from the movie Risky Business. Think late night, deserted Chicago L train, Tom Cruise, Rebecca De Mornay…

I want everyone on the internet to concentrate on the number 62 for me.

The company I work for has this little game they play called Safety Bingo. Everyone has a bingo card and every day that no one has a recordable accident a number is “called.” If there is a recordable accident the kitty is cut in half. With the second incident wiping the game out. The winning card gets $20 a square and we do play all the different bingo games so sometimes a winning card is worth a good bit. The current game is “Around the Block” and the kitty has been halved, but a win would be worth $160.

All I need is for 62 to be called and I’ll be a winner.

Totally Bankrupt

I’ve got nothing, so here is a joke from my Maxim magazine that came in the mail today:

A trumpeter is hired to to play music for a movie, but isn’t told what the movie is about.Two months later he receives a notice that the movie will debut in an adult theater. On the night of the show, he wears a trench coat and shades to avoid being seen and sits in the back row of the theater next to an elderly woman. For the next two hours, he watches hardcore porn where the lead actress has sex with a dog.

“I wrote the score,” the man whispers to the elderly woman partway through. “I just came to hear the music.”

“That’s nice,” she whispers back. “I just came to see my dog.”

I hate these west coast swings. And not just because the Sox are getting their hats handed to them, but I like hearing the games in the background as I internet (I thought I would start to use the word as a verb because I hate the term surf) at night.

Revenge of the Seething

Bless my mother-in-law, she means well. She knows I’m a Star Wars fan, so she saved me the “special” two-page poster from this Sunday’s USA Weekend. I thanked her, but I’m generally uninterested. About the poster and so too, to some extent, the movie. I am considering not going to the theater to see it and just waiting for the DVD. I will still probably get sucked in and see it on the big screen, but it will be more like late June once the crowds have died down. And I will probably be underwhelmed.

But blockbusters have since become an overbred species, and Lucas’s work has likewise degenerated into unbalanced overproduction. Post-Jar Jar, our expectations have sunk so low that now fans will celebrate a film just because it doesn’t completely suck.

This Is A Deal?

I have been getting my daily status report at work about how many spams Postini has stopped and we have crept up to over the 100 mark and pretty much stayed there since early April. I haven’t said much about the spam recently, mainly because it is literally the same old shit, but apparently I was wrong.

One new way the spammers have to grab your attention is to mix a random city with a random newspaper name, i.e. Woodbine Enquirer or Las Vegas Tribune to lend some authority to their junk. I need to get something like that spam title generator for the title of my blog, might give it some internet cred.

And it seems backgammon is the new poker, as I got a half dozen invites to $10,000 tournaments today alone but none mentioning Texas Hold ‘Em. I wonder who Bravo will get to host Celebrity Backgammon?

Here is my favorite email from over the weekend: bnyykpe@doramail.com is offering Wndows Millenium $50. Who would possibly be tempted to buy a 6 year old operating system and arguably the worst version of Windows since version 2.0? For fifty bucks? Don’t they know how much C$ALIS I can get for that much money?
